- Text of motion
- THAT this General Synod, having learned of the impending retirement on June 30th, 1973, of the Right Reverend Walter Bagnall, Bishop of Niagara, expresses its happy recognition of the unique contribution made by him to this Synod and to the whole Canadian Church, especially during his episcopate through almost a quarter of a century beginning on St. Matthew's Day, September 21st, 1949.
- We recall with particular appreciation his dynamic leadership as Chairman, first of the General Synod Finance Committee, and later, of the Committee on organization, where he proved himself a man of action, balanced by wit, insight and sound judgement.
- Our deepest sense of indebtedness is for his spontaneous sense of humour, which injected into many discussions in General Synod a note of joyful celebration, and an antidote to tension and polarization.
- We extend to him and Mrs. Bagnall our expression of enduring gratitude together with the assurance of our good wishes in their retirement.
