- Text of motion
- That, whereas the Church's ministry to her people is a continuous ministry regardless of the circumstances in which people find themselves, and since the Church must be able to minister to persons in correctional institutions, general and mental hospitals, alcoholism clinics, etcetera, which ministry necessitates specially trained priests to minister in such settings and to promote the development of clinical pastoral training programmes, and Whereas there is a continuing need for clergy to be adequately trained in pastoral care for ministry at the parish level where life and relationships are increasingly complex, and since supervised on-the-job training is not now possible within the curriculum and experience of a theological college, This General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada Endorses the work of the C.S.S. Committee on Training for Pastoral Care in granting bursaries for training in special ministries, and Further Instructs the C.S.S. to encourage and assist the development of projects in pastoral training of a clinical nature for clergy and theological students, at the parish level. CARRIED in both Houses.
