- Prologue
- Moved by Mr. B.C. Clarke, seconded by Canon Naylor, That,
- "(1) Viewing with apprehension the dearth of men of right age and calibre for work in the Missionary Districts, it be a condition of Ordination in the Canadian Church that a man be expected to serve at least two years in a Missionary Diocese.
- (2) This service to be considered in the nature of an internship, and for greater practical experience, and on its completion the clergyman concerned be free to return to the work or Diocese of his choice, thus making it possible for more fortunate Dioceses to loan young men to the Assisted Dioceses, without severing mutual connections.
- (3) Realizing that the frontier work, especially in the Missionary Dioceses of our Church, demands men who have to possess high spiritual and physical calibre, that the Church makes possible relief from economic anxiety by raising the Minimum Salary of married clergy in the Assisted Dioceses to Twenty-Four Hundred Dollars net per annum."
- The Deputy Prolocutor stated that, as paragraph (3) in this resolution was in contradiction to action taken previously in this Session of the Synod, it was ultra vires and therefore, could not be considered.
- Text of motion
- That the words in paragraph (1) "it be a condition of Ordination in the Canadian Church that a man be expected to," be deleted, and the following words substituted: "The Synod recommends that Ordinands be encouraged to," etc.
- The amendment was put to the vote, and CARRIED. The motion, as amended, was put to the vote, and CARRIED.
