- Text of motion
- Whereas there is an apparent need for a rethinking of Diocesan strategy concerning the Church's ministry in the downtown areas of our great cities, and
- Whereas the Church as a whole has been called by the Lambeth Conference "to give special study to the task, strategy, and ministry of the Church within industrial society",
- This General Synod notes with appreciation that initial steps have already been taken to study the situation in certain Dioceses and parishes, and on the national level through the National Conference on the Church Downtown, and
- - Directs the Council for Social Service:
- - (1) to establish the proposed Committee on Urban-Industrial Work without delay, and through that Committee,
- - (2) to assist in the convening of regional consultations so as to share with clergy and laity in those areas some of the insights gained at the National Conference on the Church Downtown, and
- - (3) to explore the possibilities of establishing research facilities which will assist Dioceses and parishes in the assessment of needs and in future planning.
- CARRIED in both Houses.
