- e) Alternative Liturgies
- New rites that have been or may be published by the Doctrine and Worship Committee are intended to provide consistent alternatives to Prayer Book rites, and at the same time to stimulate a fresh understanding of the meaning of those rites. It is hoped that these will be used (under proper authority), but also studied and criticized, as widely as possible throughout the Canadian Church. The Doctrine and Worship Committee invites reactions and comments from dioceses, parishes, and individuals with respect both to rites produced by the Committee and to other alternative liturgies which may be in use. In the light of this response, the Committee may from time to time publish either revisions or new liturgies designed to meet different needs.
- The Doctrine and Worship Committee therefore urges parishes who plan to use CALS #4 to begin doing so now rather than waiting for a revised version, and to make their reactions known. This will enable the Committee to bring before General Synod in 1977 an informed recommendation, based on extended use, regarding possible revision of the rite.
- The NEC suggested that a letter be sent to the Bishops bringing this request to their attention.
