- Prologue
- Dr. Balcom introduced a resolution for action by the Council concerning the Canadian Council of Churches, and Jim Boyles then presented reports from the General Board of the Canadian Council of Churches in which the following was stressed:
- The General Board passed the following motions:
- - We are convinced that the Canadian Council of Churches is necessary as a sign and agency of the common faith and mission of its members.
- - We believe that the coming into being of the Canadian Christian Council including membership of the Roman Catholic Church is an encouraging possibility within the next few years and that one of the priorities of the present Canadian Council of Churches and its staff is to assist in that development.
- - We therefore ask the member churches to commit themselves to participate in the Canadian Council of Churches with its present basis, purpose and functions and to maintain the budgets for 1976 and 1977 as requested, which make provision for an executive staff of four.
- - The Board asks that the Executive Committee undertake and report to the General Board,
- a) a review of the structure and functioning of the three Commissions
- b) a review of the relationship of the Council and of member churches to the ad hoc groups and coalitions.
- Text of motion
