- Text of motion
- That this National Executive Council ask the Minister of Finance of the Government of Canada to consider amending the Income Tax Act to provide that registered charities may engage in certain political activities which will advance the avowed charitable purposes of the registered charities; such activities may include (but not be limited to) organizing a letter writing campaign to urge elected representatives to support specific legislation (or not); using the public media to advocate support of a specific piece of legislation (or not); engaging in dialogue with members of the government or individual elected representatives or specific civil servants in furtherance of the objects of the particular charity; presenting briefs to the government; organizing, holding or participating in peaceful public demonstrations; using a sponsored publication to support a particular point of view or piece of legislation (or not);
- provided that no registered charity is permitted to take a partisan political position and/or support a specific candidate for office or political party. CARRIED
