- Prologue
- The Committee adopted the following guidelines for the liturgical expression of special concerns in the context of Sunday liturgies:
- By a long-standing custom in our Church, various Sundays in the year are designated as opportunities for study and prayer related to special concerns. The Doctrine and Worship Committee affirms this practice and offers the following suggestions for its enhancement.
- 1. Groups wishing to promote study and prayer relating to special concerns should explore the propers provided for the Sundays they are considering for special designation. Special concerns should visibly flow out of the Church's liturgy rather than displace the appointed liturgy of the Church.
- 2. A recommendation to replace the appointed reading should not be made without consultation with the Doctrine and Worship Committee.
- 3. The variable parts of the liturgy, especially the Prayers of the People, should be developed creatively to express special concerns. The Doctrine and Worship Committee will provide assistance in the preparation of such material.
- Text of motion
- That the Sub-Committee on Marriage and Related Matters be asked to take the initiative in planning a consultation on the nature and meaning of marriage, the consultation to include some opportunity for reflection on the present Marriage Rite;
- That the consultation include some members of the Doctrine and Worship Committee, the Sub-Committee on Marriage and Related Matters and appropriate representatives of other disciplines; and
- That funding for the consultation be sought from the National Executive council. CARRIED
