- "That this 27th Session of the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada record its grateful thanks to the large number of individuals who have in countless ways, helped to make our Synod structure run smoothly, and our stay in Quebec so pleasant.
- In particular we wish to record our special appreciation to:
- 1) The Rt. Rev. Timothy Matthews, our host Bishop, his Dean, Alan Goodings and the many people of this great Diocese of Quebec who have worked so hard, with such detailed care for this Synod. Particular attention is drawn to Mr. Frederick Mooney, the Cathedral organist for the talents he shared with us and the magnificent music composed by hi to mark the visit of this Synod to his Cathedral. While we know many Anglicans in this Diocese have worked long and hard to plan for us, we must recognize the special contribution of Professor Frank Slingerland, who somehow has effectively organized the local arrangements, capably chaired the Ecumenical Banquet, attended and participated in our sessions and still retains his cheerful and friendly manner.
- 2) Our Roman Catholic friends in the Province of Quebec to whom we are now more deeply obligated than we would have thought possible. Their spiritual leader, His Eminence, Cardinal Roy, welcomed us, clergy and laity alike, with great warmth and Christian brotherliness. The good people in over two hundred and fifty homes in this area opened their doors and their hearts to the members of our Synod. The hospitality and warm hearted welcomes we received and the music of the young people who provided entertainment at the Ecumenical Banquet, will live long in our memories. In particular we are indebted to Father Armand Desautels who organized the cultural exchange. It is our prayer that our weekend experience has planted seeds of understanding that will enrich permanently all those who participated.
- 3) The Rector of Laval University, Dr. Larkin Kerwin, and all the university services involved. To each of them our appreciation for providing such a congenial setting and such comfortable quarters for our Synod.
- 4) The representatives of The United Church of Canada and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Canada who have been with us throughout the sessions and made notable contributions in our thinking.
- 5) The Venerable E.S. Light, our General Secretary, his assistant Rev. James Boyles and their secretarial staff, Mrs. Muriel Bartlett and Mrs. Lorraine Davies who have been alternately recording our Minutes, and those usually nameless 'girls behind the scenes', namely: Miss Bea Caldwell, Mrs. Elizabeth Boyd, Ms. Gerry Gilbertson, Miss Bernadette Ling-Choung, Mrs. Doreen Stanish [sic ie. Stanich], Mrs. Felicia Atkinson, Mrs. Gen Garcia-Cervantes, Ms. Anita Bundy, Ms. Karen Ibbitson and Mrs. Gail Rania.
- 6) The Officers of our Synod, Mr. Desmond Smith, our Prolocutor for too short a term; Archdeacon Harry Hilchey, the deputy and our Prolocutor-elect; Canon William Sewell and Archdeacon Charles Wilkins, our Honorary Clerical Secretaries; Mrs. Mary Naylor, our first female Honorary Lay Secretary, and her assistant, Mr. Ernie Fisher; our Registrar, Mr. Douglas Gibson; and the Assessors, each the Chancellor of their respective Dioceses, Stuart Ryan, Clyne Harradence, Reginald Soward and Elliot Hudson. Each of these volunteers freely share their varied talents so that our business flows smoothly and effectively.
- 7) Some members off our Synod who were assigned special tasks, namely the twenty-eight hard working members of the Agenda Task Force, the Resolutions Committee and the Nominations Committee. Synod members may have wondered at their absence from our sessions from time to time or at the sometimes more harried appearance of these of our colleagues. They have been working intensely, closeted in often cramped quarters, labouring to smooth the way so that we may all move forward in the Lord's work.
- 8) All those who have helped us through Communication to better understand ourselves, our role in the work of our Church and our growth in Christ. Not only the members of the working press, but those responsible for the audio visual aids without which we could not hear one another, the overseas visitors bringing their love and insight from fellow Anglicans abroad, especially Bishop John Allin of PECUSA and most particularly our more youthful members of Synod for their deeply sincere and moving meditations with which we have begun our sessions each day.
- 9) The Primate and members of the Church House staff. We thank God for the skills and personal qualities with which He has endowed the Primate, and we thank the Primate for giving himself so completely and lovingly to the services of the Church. His presiding at this meeting of General Synod is a brief expression of loving concern and wisdom which he shows and exercises on behalf of the Church all through the year.
- We are aware that there is associated with the Primate at our national Church's Headquarters, a group of devoted servants of the Church, the National Church Staff, who also bring great devotion, energy and ability to their work. We owe them more appreciation than we know, or usually show. To them we express now a sincere word of appreciation for the way they carry out their vocation serving the Church as a whole and all of us individually.
- To all these the Synod and Synod members are deeply indebted. We can only extend to them our heartfelt gratitude for all their services and kindness.
