- Heber James Hamilton (1862-1952) was born in Collingwood, Ontario. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1885, ordained deacon in 1887 and priest in 1888. He was Dean of Wycliffe College, 1889-1892. He was a missionary in Japan first with the C.M.S. and then the M.S.C.C. working primarily in Gifu and Nagoya. He worked in schools for the blind, a tuberculosis sanitarium and kindergarton teacher training schools. Hamilton was elected first Bishop of Mid-Japan (1912-1934) when the Diocese of Mid-Japan was created in 1912. He resigned July 1, 1934 and lived in Toronto until he died in 1952.
- Scope and Content
- Fonds consists of genealogical information, news clippings of Hamilton's work in Japan; diaries and notebooks; certificates and other miscellaneous papers. Also included are portraits, photographs, and photo albums of Hamilton and family members.
