- John MacLean (1828-1886) was educated at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland where he received an M.A. in 1851. He came to Canada and was ordained deacon and priest in 1858 by the Bishop of Huron, Ont. MacLean served as curate, St. Paul's Cathedral, London, Ont. (1858-1866), and rector, St. John's Cathedral, Winnipeg, Manitoba (1866-1874). In 1874, he was consecrated first bishop of the newly formed Diocese of Saskatchewan, a post he held until his death.
- Scope and Content
- Fonds consists of photocopied letters written by Jessie McLean Hilton from Prince Albert, Bishop's Court and Fort Macleod, pertaining to her experiences in the west and the death of her father, Bishop John McLean. Also includes an 8p. typewritten biography of MacLean by an unknown author entitled, Bishop MacLean pioneer missionary.
