- "The purpose of this book is simple. It is to describe as vividly as possible what the Church is doing at various vital places on the frontiers of the world. The Anglican Communion has recently been faced by its leaders with a challenging document which was unfortunately saddled with the disastrously cumbrous title of 'Mutual Responsibility and Interdependence in the Body of Christ'. Briefly, the document asked every part of our world-wide Church to ask itself some very basic questions and to be prepared to act on the answers it found to those questions. The question was whether the Church was putting its mission at the centre of its life and testing all its other activities by the test of mission. (p. 1) .... This book ... is written for lay people who need and want to know more about what the Church is doing throughout the world. It is definitely a part of the continuing MRI campaign. It tries to describe in practical and concrete terms the mission of the Church in the mid-twentieth century. It is more about the 'non-Western' than the 'Western' Churches; though, since its basic theme is that it would be foolish it it did not contain something about the problems of 'Western' Churches. It is supposed to 'educate' people, and so to stimulate them to action; and it is written with the Church of England in mind, but if MRI is at all true it should be equally relevant to other Churches of the Anglican Communion" (p. 4). -- Intro.
