- "The following report has been prepared ... in answer to requests from a number of dioceses and parishes throughout Canada. Many dioceses and parishes are experiencing communion from the cup as a regular practice, while others are reluctant to do so. They have asked for clarification on the occasions when communion from the cup may be offered and have raised a number of pastoral issues. This document is an attempt to answer some of the questions which have been asked in the last few years. A questionnaire was circulated to parishes in the spring of 1995 in order to determine how people have received and experienced the practice of communion from the cup when it is offered in their parish. A copy of the questionnaire and a summary of responses are enclosed with this document. Among the pastoral issues of concern was that of hygiene and the cup; therefore, a section dealing with that topic is provided". -- Intro.
