- Notes
- The global network of Anglican Contextual Theologians (ACTs) met for the first time in May 2003 when 34 people gathered in Boston in May 2003. The meeting, called ACTS 1, saw the need for "ongoing theological conversations across the Anglican Communion that wrestle deeply with, and celebrate the richness of, the many and diverse cultural and geographic contexts of contemporary Anglicanism". Member of ANITEPAM (African Network of Institutions of Theological Education Preparing Anglicans for Ministry) who attended the first meeting offered to arrange and run a second meeting if it was held in Africa. ACTS 2 was held in Durban, South Africa, in 2004 and attended by 18 people. At present, it is hoped that there will be an ACTS 3, perhaps in South East Asia, in 2006.
- Meeting participants were made aware of the challenges facing Africa in general, South Africa in particular, and most immediately the South Durban area. They visited the Hillcrest AIDS Centre and, with the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance, saw the pollution caused by local oil refineries. Article includes a summary of the four-day meeting.
