- Notes
- The author writes about the potential and the challenges of building a music program for small congregations who cannot afford a professional organist. Consider another instrument, a single guitar or flute perhaps. Have a rota of musicians and ask for guest musicians from the community. "Parishes fortunate enough to have a small choir or music group should rethink their expectations of how they function. Robes are not necessary, nor do members have to be separated from their families in the pews unless they are singing special music. Anthems may be offered whenever the group is ready rather than every week. It is good, though, to have regular rehearsals to build skills and confidence". The author teaches voice and choral music at Algoma University and for the Algoma Conservatory. She is also a music director at St. Luke's Cathedral in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
