- "The announcement by the French Government that it intends to resume nuclear testing in the South Pacific in September has provoked widespread condemnation from Churches around the Communion." In a unanimous vote, the July 1995 Anglican General Synod deplored the resumption of nuclear testing. The Conference of European Churches sent a letter of protest to President Chirac. Article includes text of a "Statement from the Anglican Peace and Justice Network and the Anglican Observer at the UN". The statement was endorsed by Edmond L. Browning, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church."
