Moved by the Rev. C.P. Bishop, seconded by the Rev. E.H. Patterson:
Whereas there is urgent need for manpower to extend the work and worship of the Church throughout Canada and beyond the Dominion;
And whereas many of our parishes are at present understaffed and a state of emergency exists; and having in mind the report made by the Bishop of New Westminster on the State of the Church;
And whereas the early Church of Christ at a time of great expansion called older men to Holy Orders, and seeded the present Church Universal through their ministry; therefore
Be it resolved that this Synod requests that in every diocese (an extraordinary) and more constant call to fulltime service in the Church be placed before the laity in every Church, and that special means be provided for counselling, screening and training older men who have totally committed themselves for such service.
Moved in amendment by Brigadier Aeneas McB. Bell-Irving, seconded by Mr. W.L. Hammett:
Resolved that steps be taken by the Primate forthwith to issue a call from the whole Church to each Anglican family in Canada for a return to the ancient custom of dedicating at least one son to the Priesthood, and to stand behind that son with such help and support as is necessary in the circumstances.
