"The life of Florence Allshorn was spent in the main in the service of Christian missions .... When I was staying at St. Julian's at the beginning of the present year [1950], Florence Allshorn showed me a first draft of some chapters of a small book about the St. Julian's adventure, and asked for my help in putting it into shape. ... Before the time came her last illness had begun. After her death her colleagues asked me to complete the task. When we looked into the matter we agreed that there must be a biography of her and that the best course would be to combine it with the story which she had nearly completed before her death. The chapters written by Florence Allshorn herself form Part II of this book. .... The members of the St. Julian's Community and other friends of Florence Allshorn have put on paper their recollections of her for my use ...". -- Preface.
