That this Synod commend to the members of the Laity in our Church the sponsor scheme for training of ordination candidates which has proved a great success in England. Under that scheme, any one or any group willing to take part becomes the sponsor of an individual ordination candidate to whom they give financial aid, personal interest and friendship throughout the training period. That the General Synod authorize the Commission to publish 5,000 copies of the Report in pamphlet form and that the Commission be allowed to continue its labours until next meeting of General Synod. CARRIED in both Houses.
That whereas the Theological Colleges of the Church of England in Canada are jointly spending at least $100,000 per annum in addition to the fees received from the theological students and Diocesan grants, and
Whereas all the colleges are faced with financial difficulties due to the shrinking income from endowments and the increased cost of operation,
The heads of the Theological Colleges request the General Synod to consider the responsibility of the Church as a whole for the training of candidates for the Ministry, and if possible to take steps to alleviate the financial burden of the colleges, and that this matter together with the relevant recommendation in the Report of Committee on Statistics and State of the Church be referred to the Executive Council and the Commission on Training for Holy Orders.
