"The design of this book is to make available a collection of prayers sufficiently broad and comprehensive to meet the varied needs of the parochial clergy throughout the course of their ministry. It has been my endeavour to make the work as complete as possible, so as to provide not only for the normal round of church services and meetings but also for those special and occasional needs which arise from time to time in the life of a parish". -- Author's Preface.

"This book of prayers was first published by St. John's Convent, 1 Botham Road, Willowdale, Ontario, M2N 2J5, 1976. It has been published in its revised form by The Division of Mission in Canada, The United Church of Canada, Toronto, 1977". -- verso of t.-p.
"There are many excellent books of prayers. Far from wanting to replace them or improve on them, I should want to encourage their use. Sometimes, however, smallness of print, weight, or size may deprive a potential reader of the use of a book which otherwise he or she might enjoy. This modest compilation is offered simply because it is small, easy to handle, and of course in large print. Kind friends giving all manner of encouragement, as well as material help, made possible a privately printed first edition. As that edition approached exhaustion and the demand for prayers in large print continued, I was encouraged to prepare a revised edition with a minimum of new material, and one in which the prayers might be easier to find. .... A few prayers have been withdrawn because they seemed redundant, and a few others have been added. However, the principal addition will be found in the provision of short morning and evening services where a group may wish to pray together. To these services have been added selections from the Psalms. These additions will not detract from the book's original purpose an an aid to private prayer ..". -- Preface.
