Text
That this House of Bishops supports the position taken by the Doctrine and Worship Committee regarding the use of generic language in the Baptism Formula in the Book of Alternative Services. CARRIED #3-9-85
Notes
N.B. "Generic language" presumably means the formula "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen". Inclusive language is not to be used with respect to the Trinity. Clarification provided by Liturgical Office -- 26 Oct. 1993]

"This is not a 'how to' book on the Christian walk with the Holy Spirit. .... My aim here is more modest. This is a study of 'Christian spirituality', intended to clarify what is meant by this term, and to hold out the astonishing potential of Christian intimacy with God, witnessed to by Scripture and the ongoing tradition of the Church in West and East". -- Preface, p. xi.

"[By] The Primate's Theological Commission Anglican Church of Canada".
The third in a series of theological workbooks from the Primate's Theological Commission which was established in 1995. The Commission is composed of ten persons and chaired by Bishop Victoria Matthews.
This third book in the series by the Primate's Theological Commission looks at a number of issues currently being debated in the Anglican Church of Canada. "There is the Residential Schools settlement; the question of same-sex unions; cloning; war with Iraq; the threat of terrorism; and the likelihood of a new pandemic even before we are able to cure HIV/AIDS. These issues and concerns have everything to do with how our human community understands creation; the presence of evil; the person and saving work of Jesus Christ; the power of the Holy Spirit, and the doctrine of the Trinity." In this volume, "[w]e have included two essays ... that touch on the question of same-sex relationships. These essays don't address the topics of `blessing', `marriage', or `prohibition'. They both address the opening chapters of Genesis and the two creation stories. In each instance we have another commissioner challenge and engage the paper. There is no one answer given by the commission". -- Intro., p. 6.
