The Diocese of the Arctic will consider at its May 2005 synod whether its employees will be required to approve the Montreal Declaration which is opposed to gay unions.

On October 13, 2007 the Diocese of Ottawa voted 177 to 97 to approve a motion requesting its bishop to allow clergy "Whose conscience permits, to bless duly solemnized and registered civil marriages between same-sex couples" and to authorize rites for such blessings. Bishop Chapman has not given his approval to the motion.
