Archbishop George Carey visited Kenya in December 1994 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Christianity in Kenya. Archbishop Carey spoke urging the government and people to work together so that "there should be no room for religious or ethnic conflicts that lead to bloodshed". The Archbishop also "challenged the Church leaders to address themselves to the serious threat posed by AIDS."
