That this Council of General Synod congratulates National Church staff members Dr. Eleanor Johnson, Rev. Canon Alyson Barnett-Cowan and Mrs. Esther Wesley, and Archbishop David Crawley in being honoured as recipients of honourary Doctor of Divinity degrees at the respective Spring 2006 convocations of Montreal Diocesan College; Trinity College, Toronto; Huron College, London, and the Vancouver School of Theology. Dr. Ellie Johnson presented the report and said that it has been a privilege to serve as Acting General Secretary. She elaborated on some of the staff issues described in her written report.
Dr. Johnson reviewed the situation around residential schools (as outlined in her report). The work was being done by Justice Iacobucci is moving at a faster pace because of the likelihood of a vote of non-confidence in the government later this month. She reviewed recent court decisions related to residential schools.

That this Council of General Synod, with the full support of the Plan B Task Force, call the church to prayer on behalf of all those involved in the negotiations between the Honourable Frank Iacobucci, legal counsel for former students, the Assembly of First Nations, and legal counsel and others representing Church entities, that these negotiations will result in a fair and lasting resolution of the legacy of Indian Residential Schools in Canada.
