The 12th meeting of the Anglican Consultative Council was held from 15-26 September 2002 in Hong Kong and hosted by the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui. The principal organizers of the event were Archbishop Peter Kwong and the Rev. Dorothy Lau. "This year's principal speaker was Dr. Ishmael Noko of the Lutheran World Federation. It was also the last ACC meeting for the Communion's President Dr. George Carey (now Baron Carey of Clifton). Father Oge Beauvoir, Trinity Grants Programme, New York, was a special guest. He presented the ACC meeting with the format of the new Anglican Portal supported by Trinity." It was announced at the meeting that Canon John Peterson's "contract [as Secretary General] is to be extended and that he would be responsible for a major fund-raising project for an endowment for the ACO. He continues until the end of 2004". The former Ambassador to the Holy See (Vatican), Mark Pellew, will be joining the staff at the Anglican Communion Office for two years to allow Canon Peterson to concentrate on the Endowment campaign through the Compass Rose Society. It was also announced that the Communion Office will be moving to a new home, St. Andrew's House, Westbourne Park, probably in 2003. The new Chair of the Anglican Consultative Council is the Most Rev. John Paterson, Primate of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. Professor George Koshy, a layman from India, was elected Vice Chairman. The official report of the Meeting entitled "For the Life of the World" will be published in 2003.

"Peter Kwong is the newest Archbishop of the Anglican Communion. Installed on 25th October 1998, he presides over the newly created province of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui. Gracious, genial, quick to break into laughter, he is also a leader of strong conviction and clear purpose. For nearly a decade he has been guiding his dioceses towards their new identity as a full province of world-wide Anglicanism".
