The author, who is director of the Institute of Evangelism at Wycliffe College, and rector of Trinity Anglican Church in Streetsville, attended the G-Code 2000 Conference in Kanuga, N.C. in September 1995. He particularly appreciated the comments of Raymond Fung who spoke about "two issues that continually vex discussions of evangelism in our Canadian church. The first is the distinction between presence and proclamation." ... "The second issue has to do with the confusion between evangelism and mission. Dr. Fung argued that evangelism must not be overburdened with mission because it cannot carry that weight".

Notes
"The beat of African drums called 150 Anglican Conference delegates and 350 observers to worship at the Kanuga Conference Centre in North Carolina, U.S.A., in September 1995. The Conference was called Mid-Point Review of the Decade of Evangelism. As Anglicans reviewed their Missionaries in the field efforts during the first five years of the Decade, they also made plans for the next phase. `Driven by enthusiastic worship, energized by some provocative speeches, and buoyed by stories from many cultures, participants were renewed by personal encounters but often surprised that the style of Anglican evangelism varied so widely,' wrote Andrew Carey in an Anglican Communion news report".

Notes
"Canadian Anglicans who attended a conference [in Kanuga, N.C.] have expressed a desire to meet with the deans of seminaries to discuss how to equip seminarians for evangelism. .... The conference, attended by 150 delegates from throughout the Anglican Communion including the Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey, marked the midway point of the council's Decade of Evangelism". Canadians Dr. Ellie Johnson, Director of Partnerships, and Primate Michael Peers attended. "Archbishop Peers said of the Decade of Evangelism, `Numerical growth may not be the result, and may not even be the main issue. It is possible that's not what the decade is for.' Using a theory from Loren Mead, an American writer on congregational development, the primate explained that there are four different kinds of church growth: numerical, maturational, organic (`the way we function together") and incarnational growth ("the ability to take faith and meaning and values into one's own neighbourhood')."
