"The Anglican Church of Canada's General Synod has requested bishops and deans to focus, for 22 days, from May 31 to June 21 [2017], on renewing the church's commitment to support the work of the Anglican Fund for Healing and Reconciliation through prayers, participation in awareness-raising campaigns and donations. Early this year [2017], Council of General Synod (CoGS) agreed to dedicate the undesignated proceeds of Giving with Grace, General Synod's annual fundraising campaign, to replenish the fund. For the next five years, the fund -- created in 1992 as part of the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement -- will focus on language recovery". General Secretary, Archdeacon Michael Thompson, "stressed that while the Anglican Church of Canada has met its legal obligations under the settlement agreement, 'we're far from finished with our spiritual and moral obligation to continue to support the healing work that is underway among those survivors and in those communities'."
That the Pension Board be authorized to conduct a Special Names campaign to provide capital funds to augment the pensions of members of the Pension Plan who do not enjoy Canada Pension Plan benefits, and other similar purposes; and that the Pension Committee be given the primary responsibility for organizing this campaign in consultation with the Task Force on Funding National Goals; and
that the Task Force which will conduct this campaign be nominated by the Pension Committee, and appointed by the Officers of Synod; and that the Task Force be directed to report both interim and final plans to the Officers of Synod for their approval prior to implementation. CARRIED
"General Synod Journal of Proceedings, 1956. 'The Foundation should be very broad. The Foundation should enhance the work of the Church in all its aspects. There is no choice but to proceed'. On April 26, 1957 the Anglican Foundation of Canada was formally established. 'It is desirable to emphasize the national character of the church and that this can be best accomplished by means of a single charitable foundation bearing a simple and descriptive name. It is our view that many individuals are at a loss to know to whom to make donations for the work of the Church beyond the parish, and that the establishment of the proposed foundation would facilitate gifts and bequests and would enable appropriate emphasis to be made in a way that would be understandable to laymen'."
A brief description of volunteer Tony van Straubenzee. "Fresh off the first corporate campaign for FaithWorks for the Diocese of Toronto [he] has been nabbed by Executive Director John Erb to help the Anglican Foundation".
"General Synod ended 2011 with a deficit of 65,000, due to a decline in expected revenue of $808,000 according to Treasurer Michele George". "The 2011 results show that budgeting revenue remains a challenge for General Synod. If necessary, other sources of funding may need to be identified or work deferred said George, who resigned in July [2012], citing health and family reasons. The resignation becomes effective Oct. 1 [2012]." "Vianney (Sam) Carriere, director of Resources for Mission, said that the Anglican Journal Appeal and the Gifts for Mission catalogue met their targets in 2011. In addition, efforts are underway to strengthen all three fundraising campaigns through the integration of campaign staff and resources".
"Council of General Synod (CoGS) has approved a covenant that allows the Resources for Mission (RFM) department to approach donors for large gifts on behalf of the ministries of General Synod. The governing bodies of all separately incorporated ministries, including the Primate's World Relief and Development fund (PWRDF), the Anglican Foundation and the Pension Office Corporation, have also approved the agreement. The covenant is 'very important' said Vianney (Sam) Carriere, director of RFM. 'It's generally recognized in the area of fundraising that the fewer appeals made on behalf of an organization, the better. We've been hearing for years that there are too many appeals' coming from General Synod, and these can be 'confusing and irritating' for donors, he added. The agreement is limited to 'large gifts that are directed towards specific significant areas of ministry', said RFM's written report. 'This work .. is .. now being done more intentionally and with renewed emphasis'. The covenant does not involve the annual appeals of the various ministries, but Carriere expressed the hope that it will 'open the door to other things that we can do together'."
