Archbishop Finlay says "It's no secret that for many years now I've been in favour of the local option" for same-sex blessings. He also says he regrets he wasn't able to restore the licence to Jim Ferry, Joyce Barnett and Alison Kemper.
The Bishop's Court of Toronto diocese found Mr. Ferry guilty of two charges of violating diocesan canon law. It recommended the withdrawal of his license as a priest. Bishop Finlay said that Mr. Ferry's situation would be reviewed annually.
"The diocese of Toronto has charged Rev. James Ferry with acting in a manner unbecoming a member of the clergy and will submit the charges to a Bishop's Court probably in February [1992]." "Mr. Ferry was fired by Bishop Finlay for refusing to give up his relationship with another man."
"Editorial Note: Although the Ferry case received considerable publicity, the facts were not clearly set out. A summary of events has therefore been included to assist in the understanding of the case."
