Support has been requested by the Church in Cuba. The Primate informed the Council of the background and explained the reasons for the request for support. A letter to the Primate from the Bishop of Cuba will be responded to by National and World Program Division. It was requested that a copy of this letter also be passed on to ACNAC.

From 30 April to 7 May 2016, the International Justice Camp, a joint initiative of the Episcopal Church of Cuba, the diocese of Niagara and the Anglican Church of Canada, The Primate's World Relief and Development Fund and the Anglican Foundation of Canada took place at the Roman Catholic Retreat Centre in Matanzas, Cuba. The author, a member of St. Margaret's Church in Winnipeg, was one of 25 Canadian and 25 Cuban participants in the camp. "While others dispersed to locations around Cuba to delve into topics like food security and social engagement, I boarded a bus to the capital city of Havana as part of a group focused on economic justice".

Although the editorial supports our support for Cuba, it wonders if perhaps the Council of General Synod shouldn't have spent more time on issues of more importance to grassroots Anglicans.

That the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada urge the Minister of Foreign Affairs to:
a) continue to resist pressure on the Government of Canada, Canadian business and foreign subsidiaries operating in Canada to join the United States embargo against Cuba.
b) offer to mediate between Cuba and the USA with a view to normalization of relations.
c) intensify efforts to promote the entry of Cuba into the Organization of American States. CARRIED Act 53
