Amid a spirit of tenderness and joy, Cariboo diocesan synod agreed to support Native people in the diocese in their efforts to form an Aboriginal Anglican Church in Canada.
A description of the small diocese of Cariboo which has only 22 clergy in 45 congregations serving 170,000 square kilometres. Clergy praise Bishop Jim Cruickshank for his role in the diocese and his efforts to "foster a sense of family and create aplace where people belong". "There is also an inclusiveness that sees every cleric in the diocese share some area of diocesan responsibility. In this way, Bishop Cruickshank says, Cariboo is managed from the bottom up. The bottom up approach is shared by the diocese's priests who encourage lay leadership".
"Bishop Jim Cruickshank of the diocese of Cariboo has officially announced his resignation by year's end, a few weeks after confirming that the diocesan offices will close by Dec. 31 [2001]."
