- "The following pages contain what I sincerely hope is a fair account of the Anglican Congress of 1963. In addition to the sermons and formal addresses, reproduced in as accurate and definitive a form as time and circumstances permit. I have included both the group 'findings' as officially reported to the full Congress and a wide selection of informal speeches and comments made in the plenary sessions or sent in from the groups. I have also attempted a brief preliminary interpretation of the Congress as I saw it and felt its impact. It was the express wish of the Editorial Committee that the record of the Toronto Congress should include these elements of personal reporting and commentary and I have tried to carry out my assignment without worrying unduly about the criticisms that such an impressionistic account must necessarily invite". -- Preface, p. xv.

- "In this Number we are glad to present a series of lectures which were given by Bishop [John S.] Moyes, a visitor to Canada from the Lambeth and Amsterdam Conferences, en route to his home and Diocese in Australia. The lectures were delivered in September [1948] at the annual meeting of the Trinity College Alumni on the Dean Starr Memorial Foundation." "We believe that in the title we have given to this Bulletin, we have caught the essence of the Bishop's theme and contention. He insists that the touchstone of all social matters, and of any social reforms, should be the Christian doctrine of man. We believe that such a starting point would be a corrective to those reformers who seem to depend upon a particular theory of economics, industry or politics as a means to secure justice. In the moving, changing scene, every `system' must be scrutinized and criticized and every step in the process of change closely examined and tested to see if it contributes, or will contribute, to the well-being of people as spiritual beings created in God's image and redeemable by Christ". -- Foreword.

- "No part of the Lambeth Report on `The Church and the Modern World' is of more immediate interest than the section dealing with Communism. There is no phenomenon in the world of today which demands more clear-eyed attention and well-organized action by Christians than this atheistic ideology and the political movement which has arisen from it. It is both an ideology and a movement and as such must be recognized. .... Christians, thus recognizing Marxian Communism for what it is, will realize that it has to be fought to a finish. .... Hence in this Bulletin we give the parts of the Lambeth document bearing on the subject, with two interpretations by bishops who attended Lambeth and who speak with full knowledge, and other material". -- Foreword.
