"The Most Rev. Dr. Barry Morgan, Archbishop of Wales, praised congregations across Wales for their wonderful response to the survivors of the tsunami in the Indian Ocean on 26 December [2004] and urged congregations and individuals to hold the victims in their prayers. Commenting in January [2005] the Archbishop said: `In my sermon on Christmas day, I emphasised the importance of doing something when we are faced with tragedies and said that "the central truth of the Gospel is about praying for our world and doing something practical to help the poor of the world. The heart of the festival of Christmas is that God in Jesus Christ identifies himself completely with his world, especially those who are poor or in trouble of ay kind and invites those who are his followers to join Him in his struggle against poverty, disease, war, hopelessness and despair. Therein lies the meaning of love both divine and human"."

"There have been occasions when, as we put together an issue of the 'Anglican Journal', a certain theme emerges from the stories that have been written -- without our having planned it. This is one such edition. As you leaf through the pages, an image emerges of a church that is caring for the world -- whether responding actively to a need for evangelism or social justice or offering a reassuring presence". "It has been observed that in times of national and international turmoil, many people, even those living in secularized societies, often expect the church/faith groups to offer a prophetic voice or even just a measure of solace. This is one such moment in history when the church cannot and should not disappoint. It is therefore fitting to encourage and support ministries that fulfill the gospel imperative to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger and visit the sick".
"In a world torn by ideology, the Christian faith promises a journey toward wholeness. Yet the church has often confused ideology with faith and reduced its rich tradition to moralizing and stagnant custom. The author suggests positive and practical solutions to the many pressing questions raised by the confrontation between contemporary culture and church tradition. He writes for those who have difficulty in believing and for those who wish to grow in faith. This book is intended both for individual readers and for groups of people willing to explore together". -- back cover.
