"Edited by Thomas F. Best and Tamara Grdzelidze".
Includes bibliographical references.
"Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry (BEM) remains a seminal text for the churches and the ecumenical movements. Since its publication in 1982, this World Council of Churches Faith and Order convergence document has been translated into more than 40 languages, has remained an ecumenical best-seller, and has been the basis of many official agreements between churches. This vibrant collection of essays, from a wide range of confessional and regional perspectives, explores the continuing legacy of BEM. Articles trace the influence of BEM -- and the challenge it continues to pose today -- in areas such as worship, ecclesiology, the churches' social witness, and local parish life. But critical questions are also raised: how far have the churches acted upon the agreements signalled in BEM ? Was there full participation in the BEM process in all regions of the world ? And what does the churches' experience with BEM tell us about the next stage of the ecumenical journey ?" -- back cover.
"[M]ost of the contributors -- who wrote of course as individual theologians from various traditions -- were invited to reflect on the legacy of BEM for a volume dedicated to the 80th birthday of Lukas Vischer, Director of Faith and Order during most of the long process of envisioning and producing the text. In this sense this volume may be regarded as a Festschrift for Lukas Vischer, offered in tribute to his commitment to the cause of the visible unity of the church". -- Preface.
Contents divided into three main sections: Issues of Ecclesiology and Worship -- Reception: Regional and Other Perspectives -- BEM and Beyond.
Contents: Preface / Thomas F. Best and Tamara Grdzelidze -- Baptism and Christian Initiation in Ecclesiological Perspective / S. Mark Heim -- A "Real though incomplete Communion through Baptism": Ecumenical Development Twenty-Five Years After 'Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry' / John A. Radano -- The Eucharistic Dynamic of BEM / Geoffrey Wainwright -- BEM and the Struggle for the Liturgical Soul of the Emergent Church / Michael Northcott -- Personal, Collegial and Synodal Responsibility in the Roman Catholic Church: What Convergences Are There Between Reception of Vatican II and BEM / Herve Legrand -- The Effect of Baptism. Eucharist and Ministry on the Church of England / Mary Tanner -- Memory Against Forgetting : the BEM Document After Twenty-Five Years / Gennadios of Sassima -- Some Problems of Authority and Credibility in the Drafting and Reception Processes of the BEM Document / Jesse N.K. "Significant agreements and statements have not been made just by the National Commission in the United States and by the International Commission; important developments have occurred in other areas of the world also. So it is that, in presenting this collection of documents, a number of items from other countries are included. All of the documents in this collection have been previously published, but not many of our readers will have ready access to the variety of periodicals and publications within which the contents of this volume are found. The documents are presented in chronological order, but, of course, more documentation is omitted than included". -- Intro. p. 2.

"[By] Lewis S. Mudge".
Includes bibliographical references and index.
This book "asks how the community of faith as such can be both context and criterion for dealing with today's questions of shared life on earth, some of which involve threats to the continuation of life itself. The heart of the argument is that churches need to recover the vocation of providing primary moral formation, of shaping people's moral identity, long before politicized arguments begin". -- Preface, p. 8.
"As it happens, these matters have also been the focus of a study process sponsored over the last four years by the World Council of Churches (WCC). The pages that follow are one participant's `take' on that international dialogue on `ecclesiology and ethics'." - Preface, p. 9.
Contents divided into six main sections: A Calling to Be Different -- Seeing the World Through Ecumenical Lenses -- Formation: Generating Moral Capacities -- Formation: Discerning Moral Possibilities -- An Oikoumene of Moral Practices ? -- Horizons of Meaning and the Household of Life.

The Inter-Anglican Standing Commission on Ecumenical Relations (IASCER) met in Beau Vallon, the Seychelles, from Sunday, 3rd to Saturday, 9th December 2006. The Commission is chaired by Archbishop Drexel Gomez of the West Indies. "Reports were received of all current bilateral theological dialogues of the Anglican Communion as well as of developments from particular regions of the globe." The Commission reviewed two major forthcoming ecumenical publications: The Agreed Statements of the International Anglican-Roman Catholic Commission for Unity and Mission (IARCCUM) and the International Commission for Anglican-Orthodox Theological Dialogue, both of which will be published early in 2007. The Commission "also responded positively to the proposals for a Covenant following the Windsor Report 2004 and prepared a contribution to the work of the Covenant Design Group. The Commission also reflected upon the recent publication of the ecclesiological texts, 'The Nature and Mission of the Church' and 'Called to be the One Church', by the World Council of Churches and the Faith and Order Commission, and urged Provinces to engage positively with the process of response. Article includes list of all members of the Commission at the meeting with further contact information noted as being available from Canon Gregory K. Cameron.

"Report of the ad hoc sub-commission of IARCCUM presented to the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams and to the President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, Cardinal Walter Kasper, June 8th, 2004".
The Ecclesiological Sub-Commission of IARCCUM was set up by the Rowan Williams and Walter Kasper "to address the ecclesiological concerns raised by the event [i.e. the episcopal consecration of Gene Robinson in New Hampshire]" -- p. [2].
Includes bibliographical references.
"44. We have tried to show how the decision of the Episcopal Church USA to proceed with the recent consecration [of Gene Robinson] despite sustained strong opposition from large segments of the Anglican Communion calls into question significant portions of our agreed statements on authority and ecclesiology ...:." "46. If Anglican Dioceses or provinces were to embrace the notion of a `local option' for important decisions about the teaching of the Church in matters of faith and morals, and if bonds of communion were weakened in the direction of a federation of autonomous provinces rather than a relationship of mutual responsibility and interdependence, then our consensus on the ecclesiology of communion would be seriously undermined, perhaps irreparably damaged". -- Conclusion, p. 20.
Anglican Members of the Ecclesiological Sub-Commission were: The Rt. Rev. David Beetge, Anglican Co-Chair of IARCCUM, the Rt. Rev. John Baycroft, Dr. Mary Tanner, The Rev. Canon Gregory Cameron, Anglican Co-Secretary, IARCCUM. Roman Catholic Members: The Rev. Peter Cross, the Rev. Dr. Paul McPartlan, the Rev. Liam Walsh, OP, the Rev. Canon Donald Bolen, Roman Catholic Co-Secretary, IARCCUM.
