"The purpose of this book is to make available for widespread consultation and evaluation the texts of the twenty-two psalms that currently make up ICEL's liturgical psalter project. This evaluation instrument is being sent to selected parishes, religious communities, and scholars throughout the English-speaking world for use and study over the period of an entire liturgical year beginning Easter 1984 and concluding Easter 1985. Because the psalms that constitute this project are the twenty-two common responsorial psalms in the lectionary, they seem a good means for helping consultants evaluate ICEL's project over a full liturgical year. They are most appropriate for use in a large variety of liturgical celebrations over the course of a year". -- Foreword.
Contents: Foreword dated April 1984 / John R. Page, Executive Secretary, International Commission on English in the Liturgy -- Introduction -- Brief on the Liturgical Psalter -- Part I: The Psalm Texts with Critical Notes -- Part II: The Psalms in the Liturgy -- Index and Tables: Common Responsorial Psalms -- Index: Order of Mass -- Index: The Rites -- Index: Liturgy of the Hours -- Topical Index.
Contents include two quesionnaires: Questionnaire on Psalm, Texts -- Questionnaire on Musical Setttings.

"The publication of `Gather', introduces a number of long overdue firsts. It is the first collection of contemporary folk style hymns, songs and psalms that is truly comprehensive. .... When compiling `Gather', the editors kept a constant focus on the Lectionary, so that the hymnal would not only represent a fine collection of congregational music, but music that accompanies the assembly throughout its celebration of the church year. This is the first folk hymnal which, like its classical counterpart `Worship', is organized according to the way we celebrate. .... Although each stands alone, the ultimate parish resource, we believe, is the combination of `Gather' and the already critically acclaimed `Worship -- Third Edition'." -- Preface.

"As a way of responding to our new situation, the following materials are presented as a guide through a difficult time of decision, possibly one of the most difficult and painful decisions we may have to make in our entire life; the decision to remove a life support system. The material is offered, first, as a way to think through what we are doing. The following questions and discussions are offered as a way of examining our options, to clarify what we are doing, to help us get a sense of our responsibilities and our limits. Second, we offer a Family Prayer Service which can be used before the life support system is withdrawn." -- Intro., p. 3.

"[By] Deborah McCann".
"In my work as a pastoral associate, I have seen how prayer can make or break the focus and effectiveness of a meeting. For that reason, it is important to tailor prayers to the needs of the group. I have assembled here a number of blessings geared to specific purposes, committees, or ministries, as well as longer prayer services (though even these should take not more than ten minutes of your meeting time). .... I encourage you to feel free to adapt these services to suit your particular situation or gathering. I've tried to keep the flexible to serve the greatest variety of groups". -- Intro.
