1. To read the Holy Scriptures more frequently, both in personal and family devotions.
2. To support the work of the Bible Society more effectively by joining existing branches of the Bible Society, or by assisting in the organizing of new Parish or Community branches where needed.
3. To greatly increase their support of the Bible Society in 1967, in 1968, and in future years because of the growing literacy, and because of the great need for God's love and for God's peace in the world at this time. CARRIED in both Houses.

Text
That this General Synod hereby endorses a nine-point rule of life, and commends it as a practical expression of real and active membership in the Church as follows:
"As a member of Christ and His Church, I will strive, with God's help, to govern myself by the following precepts:
1. To pray morning and evening and read Holy Scriptures regularly. (In families the practice of family prayer is strongly urged.)
2. As a Christian Duty, and as an act of Witness, to attend Divine Service regularly on the Lord's Day, unless hindered by sickness or other unavoidable cause.
3. To receive Holy Communion regularly; and always on the greater Festivals; and, if possible, on occasions of personal interest (such as a Birthday, Confirmation or wedding anniversary); after due preparation through repentance and faith, and with thanksgiving.
4. To practice Christian self-discipline, in harmony with the teaching of the Prayer Book.
5. To undertake personal service in parish and community; and in the faithful fulfilment of my daily work to serve the Lord Christ.
6. To express the principle of stewardship by generous and systematic giving of money, according to my means, for the work of the Church at home and abroad, and for the relief of the needy.
7. To study the Christian Faith and its principles of personal and social conduct, and thus to be able to bear an intelligent witness in the fellowship of the Christian Church.
8. To preserve and strengthen Christian home and family life, by upholding the Church's standard of marriage, and by training children to love and serve the Lord in the fellowship of His Church.
9. As opportunity offers, to promote harmony and good-will in the relationships of daily life."
The Synod requests the G.B.R.E. to have this printed on a card, with two good adult prayers printed on the reverse side, and made available for all parishes and missions; and asks the Clergy to present it to their congregations, at the same time urging their people to accept it and act upon it. Prologue
Moved by Brig. Aeneas McB. Bell-Irving, seconded by Dr. D. McFarlane:
In view of the emphasis placed at the 1958 Lambeth Conference on the Bible as a key to the world's predicament and the need to give all possible support to those Societies whose concern is the distribution of the Scriptures to all lands,
And in view of the fact that the report of the British and Foreign Bible Society for the year 1959 shows the Society expects to be one half million dollars short of the amount required only to meet the most urgent requests for copies of the Scriptures,
And being aware of the extent to which the translated Word of God can influence all peoples as a spiritual force of tremendous power and especially in the uncommitted nations,
And because we are deeply conscious of the need of Canada to find some effective way in which she can contribute to the wider development of our democratic heritage with its roots firmly planted in the ancient Scriptures,
And certain that here, ready to hand, is the most valuable weapon this world affords,
Now do we the 20th General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada Resolve to:--
Petition the Government of Canada to make a public pronouncement, at the earliest possible moment, acknowledging publicly the Bible as the most effective means of preserving our heritage and, further, to take such steps as are necessary to ensure its more speedy translation and distribution:
Pray the Dioceses and Parishes of our Church and all others of like-minded denominations, to give generously of their talents and treasure toward the British and Foreign Bible Society for the extension of the work of translation and distribution.
Request the Editors of Canadian Newspapers, as well as the leaders of Labour and Industry, to do all in their power, in this critical time, to increase the devotion to the Word of God:
We direct that this Resolution be referred to the Department of Information and Stewardship, with the recommendation that the resolution or the substance of it be published each year until the next meeting of General Synod as a full page advertisement in the Financial Post;
And further, to send a copy of this Resolution, with such supporting material as may seem fit, to the Prime Minister and all members of the Parliament of Canada and to such others as the Department of Information and Stewardship may decide. And finally petition the House of Bishops, and its individual members, to use their personal and corporate influence for the extension of this work in every way possible.
Text
That the motion of Brigadier Aeneas McB. Bell-Irving be referred to the Department of Information and Stewardship for such action as may be possible and advisable.
The amendment was put and CARRIED in both Houses.

Notes
The author is working his way through an acronym, based on the word "GROW" as it relates to making disciples and Christian life. In previous columns he discussed the letter"G" which stands for "getting closer to God" and "R" which stands for "renovation of the heart". In this column he discusses "O" which "stands for `overview of the faith', which has to do with understanding the content of our faith. This is the story that is told in the Bible, and from the Bible in our creeds and eucharistic prayers." "We immediately have a problem here, because one of the realities of our situation, and one that we really don't like to talk about too much is the undeniable fact that the majority of people in our churches are functionally biblically illiterate". "The need here is to be proactive and creative in finding ways to give people an overview of the Bible, with some understanding of where it came from, how it is arranged, and the social and historical contexts in which the various books were composed. .... In all of this we want to be able to give them meaningful help in how to read the Bible for understanding, guidance, nourishment, and spiritual growth".
