Canon Jacques P. Bossiere, president of a new association of Francophone Anglican Churches, has said that "Anglicanism will find acceptance among many people in the world's French-speaking areas if it can be de-anglicised". Canon Bossiere said that the "genius of Anglicanism lies in the `comprehensiveness ' that enables it to hold together such divergent approaches as `high church' and `low church' in a way that Roman Catholicism cannot".

-- Pr?sentation.

Text
April 15, 1994 -- For immediate release
Archbishop Michael Peers, the Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, is appealing for immediate prayers and financial support for the people of Rwanda and Burundi, whose lives have been shattered by violent political upheaval.
"Today several hundred thousand Rwandan sisters and brothers are fleeing their homes to seek refuge in the forests or in neighbouring countries," the Primate said in issuing the appeal. "We can hardly imagine their sense of distress and loss."
He added that the upheaval there was complicating the situation in neighbouring Burundi, where ethnic violence has continued sporadically since it broke out last October. Refugees from Rwanda have already begun to move into Burundi.
The Primate's World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) will receive monetary donations to help meet immediate needs for food and shelter in the two strife-torn, central African countries -- and to support reconciliation, peace and reconstruction.
Donations can be made directly to PWRDF or through parish collections, which are being encouraged to begin this Sunday, April 17 [1994].
The Primate's Fund has been asked by the worldwide Anglican Communion to provide leadership in this global Anglican appeal for aid. Because of Canada's bilingual heritage, the Anglican Church of Canada has a special partnership with sister churches in the two francophone countries.
The appeal, which is beginning with this urgent request for immediate donations, will have four components: givings, prayer, education and advocacy. Funds raised will be used in four areas: for emergency relief; to support refugees; for reconstruction; and for reconciliation. Contributions will be monitored and will be allocated according to PWRDF's usual processes, as was the case in the Africa Drought Appeal two years ago.
Direct donations may be mailed to the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund, at 600 Jarvis St., Toronto, M4Y 2J6. Cheques can be made out to PWRDF and marked for Rwanda-Burundi Appeal. Receipts for tax purposes will be issued for all donations.

Prologue
The report was presented by the Ven. G. Hendra, Mr. A. Goss, Mrs. Patricia Bays, Canon K. Genge and Bishop Snowden. Mrs. Diane Maybee spoke on ACNAC [Anglican Council of North America and the Caribbean].
It was noted that the Rev. Brian Prideaux is the newly appointed Ecumenical Officer. He will begin his duties as of January 1, 1982.
ACC-5 - Mrs. Bays reported on ACC-5 and referred to her written report. Items of particular interest to the Anglican Church of Canada are:
Section I - This section incorporated into the report a set of questions around 12 major areas of concern. It is recommended "that the Churches study these questions in ways appropriate to their own circumstances." How can we bring these questions to the attention of members of this Church?
Section III - This section also raised a series of questions. How can they be directed to the Church for study?
The Francophone dioceses need books and other resources in French. How can we assist further in this work?
Member churches are asked to send regularly to ACC [Anglican Consulative Council] information about training generally, about training for bishops and a report for ACC-6 on movements of renewal in the Church.
