That the expenses of the meeting of the House of Bishops which is being called by the Primate to consider the training of older men for the Ministry and which will be convened during the last week of January 1961, be met from the interest which has accrued in the Appleford Bequest. CARRIED.

Bishop Matthews said that he would be happy to arrange for hospitality for any of the Bishops who wished to stay in Quebec City following the meeting of the House of Bishops in Montreal, and prior to the start of General Synod. The Primate noted that the Department of Administration and Finance has approved a per diem rate for the Bishops.
That the timetable suggested by the Metropolitans be approved with the proviso that if a session is needed prior to General Synod a brief meeting of the House be scheduled immediately prior to the General Synod.

Resolved that this General Synod knowing that the House of Bishops meets and consults together as an organization separate from and independent of General Synod, and recognizing the advantage to General Synod and the Church as a whole that such an organization exists and functions, hereby authorizes and requests the Administration and Finance Committee to consult with the Bishops with a view to determine what financial and administrative assistance might and should be given to assist the Bishops in the operation of this organization and of meeting the cost in whole or in part of twice yearly meetings, the Administration and Finance Committee being hereby authorized to make such financial and administrative assistance available as they see fit. That this House of Bishops accepts with gratitude the sum of $10,000 from the Assessment Budget toward the costs of the spouses attending the national House of Bishops educational event in June, 1992. Additional costs to allow the spouses to attend this important event will be raised by members of the House.
We recognize the fact that this is an educational and training event for the spouses and the bishops together. For this reason we apply to have all costs for all bishops and their spouses to attend the training event in 1995. This means that the Administration and Finance Committee of the General Synod should be alerted to this immediately so that the budgetary considerations for the future may be met. CARRIED
We request that Bishop Hockin be present for all or part of the House of Bishops meetings in October 2003 and the spring of 2004 and that his expenses be included in the budget of the House of Bishops. CARRIED Res. #HB-03-04-07
The General Secretary reported that an invitation has been received from the Diocese of Western Newfoundland to hold the meeting of the House of Bishops prior to General Synod in Corner Brook. The bishops were pleased to accept the invitation.
Concern was expressed regarding the provision of funds to enable the wives of the bishops to be present at the meeting.
That a small task force be appointed to consider the various options for paying the expenses of the bishops' wives who attend the House of Bishops' meeting in June, 1989, and that the task force bring its suggestions before this House prior to the end of the meeting. CARRIED
That this House ask the Budget Sub-Committee of General Synod to include annually in the House of Bishops' budget a sum of money to enable the wives of bishops to attend and be part of a specific program during the pre-General Synod House of Bishops meetings every three years. CARRIED

"Whereas the reorganization of General Synod makes necessary a change in the financing of the Annual Meetings of the House of Bishops, therefor, be it resolved that the Board of Finance be requested to add annually to the assessment on the diocese a sum to meet the travelling expenses and hospitality of the Bishops attending such annual meetings where such expenses are not charged to General Synod Funds or those of the Executive Committees of the General Boards or Commissions."
It was estimated that the amount required would be:
For General Synod years - $1600 for hospitality
For Non-General Synod years - $1600 for hospitality plus $2000 for travel.
"That the expenses for travel and hospitality of retired Bishops attending this session of the House of Bishops and of those Bishops whose expenses are not otherwise met by General Synod in respect of attendance at the National Executive Committee or the Executives of Boards of General Synod, shall be a charge on Appleford Trust this year."
