Bishop Valentine noted that, in preparing the Agenda, the Task Force had given careful consideration to correspondence, items to be brought forward from previous meetings of the House as indicated in past Minutes, and all other concerns which require the attention of the Bishops, of which the Task Force was aware. Bishop Valentine expressed particular appreciation to Archdeacon Light for his assistance in dealing with correspondence and contacting resource people. He noted that the evening sessions were structured to allow for a change of pace and opportunity for involvement on a different level. It was noted that there was one hour allowed for meetings of the Provincial Houses, and recommended that any Houses which require longer periods should make independent arrangements for meetings at some time other than during the meetings of the House of Bishops.
"That the Agenda, as presented, be the Agenda for this meeting." CARRIED
That the House of Bishops alter the agenda in order to return to the discussion of the day before about the events in the Diocese of New Westminster and blessing same sex unions. CARRIED Res. #HB-03-04-02
On Friday, November 13th , there were comments about the agenda. Particularly on how items get sent to the House of Bishops from other committees. It was observed that the end result is often that the House becomes reactive rather than proactive with respect to its agenda. There was general agreement that the House of Bishops needs to let others know what it is, and what it does. The hope being that such information would avoid the tendency to make the House of Bishops a clearing house (for items sent from other groups and committees). It was suggested by one member that House items should be those which fall under the categories of faith, order or discipline. Also of concern, was the need for program specifically oriented to new bishops. ("New bishops" were defined as those who have been bishops for one to five years.)
That this House ask the agenda committee to include a session for new bishops' training at the second half of the February 1993 House of Bishops meeting. CARRIED
Bishop Ferris, chair of the agenda committee announced additions to the agenda. He reminded the members that the day to be spent with the Anglican Council of Indigenous Peoples had been planned with representatives from that group.
"That the agenda be adopted with those changes." CARRIED Res. #HB-01-10-99
In reporting on behalf of the Agenda Committee, Bishop Berry noted that the Report of the Task Force on Funding National Goals would come before the House on June 11th, and that the Reverend Canon Ebert Hobbs, newly appointed Director of Membership Development would be present for the presentation. He noted, also, that meetings of Provincial Houses were to be held at the close of the evening session on June 12th.
That the agenda, as presented, including the two additions, be accepted. CARRIED
