That this National Executive Council approves the recommendation of the National Steering Committee of Anglicans in Mission regarding the distribution of $5,000,000 Pension Supplement in the National Case as follows:
The National Case of Anglicans in Mission includes $5,000,000 designated to supplement the pensions of Church workers who are not receiving the full benefits of the Canada Pension Plan; this amount to include supplements in the Dioceses of Niagara and Montreal who are not members of the General Synod Pension Plan.
On the recommendation of the Anglicans in Mission Case Committee and the General Synod Pension Committee, the National Director of Anglicans in Mission has been in consultation with the representatives of the Dioceses of Niagara and Montreal in an attempt to find a formula, agreed upon by the interested parties, for the distribution of the $5,000,000 fund.
The Diocese of Niagara has proposed that the amount of Anglicans in Mission funds to be returned to that diocese for pension purposes be $176,000. This amount is equal to one-third of one-quarter of $2,119,000 which is the Diocesan Accepted Share of the National Goal.
The Diocese of Montreal has proposed that $260,000 of Anglicans in Mission funds be returned to that diocese for pension purposes. This figure is 5.22% of the $5,000,000 National Pension Supplement Goal, and Montreal's Accepted Share is 5.22% of the National Goal of $20,000,000.
The recommended distribution of the $5,000,000 Pension Supplement is as follows:
General Synod Pension Fund........$4,564,000
Diocese of Montreal Pension Fund.. 260,000
Diocese of Niagara Pension Fund... 176,000
The distribution is dependent upon the respective dioceses and the General Synod reaching the financial goals of Anglicans in Mission. CARRIED
"The synod of the diocese of the Arctic, meeting in Iqaluit, Nunavut from May 27 to June 3 , passed a motion criticizing decisions by four dioceses of the Anglican Church of Canada that support blessing same-sex unions". "It also passed a motion expressing 'strong support .. for those in the Southern Cone dioceses, recognizing them as members of the Anglican Communion'." 'In an interview Bishop Atagotaaluk said the decision by the synods of the dioceses of Ottawa, Montreal, Niagara and Huron to ask their bishops to give clergy permission to bless homosexual marriages 'kind of let us down from trusting that we had a process that everybody can work with'. He added that since the 2007 General Synod defeated the motion affirming the authority of dioceses to offer same-sex blessings, 'there was no message saying that we could all go our own way'." "'We have serious housing issues -- we used to provide housing for clergy and they're all aging and needing to be replaced or renovated and there are no funds available for that kind of work', [Bishop Atagotaaluk] said". "During the synod a draft of the new English/Inuktitut hymnbook, 'Voices of Worship', was distributed to delegates and used for the duration of the meeting".
