Be it resolved that
a) pursuant to Section 7 b) iii) of the Declaration of Principles consent to the decision by the Synod of the ecclesiastical Province of British Columbia and Yukon to rearrange boundaries to transfer the territory of the diocese of Cariboo to the Anglican Parishes of the central Interior, and
b) confirm that the Anglican Parishes of the Central Interior has the status of a diocese, and as such is entitled to membership in the General Synod pursuant to section 8 of the constitution.
The theme of healing and reconciliation at the first assembly of the Parishes of the Central Interior was significant as Lytton is where the school crisis in the church started.
"Bishops from four dioceses emerged from the house of bishops meeting in October [2008] struggling with how to proceed with plans to introduce same-sex blessings in their dioceses. While the majority of bishops agreed to a moratorium on same-sex blessings, the bishops from the dioceses of Ottawa, Montreal, Niagara and Huron, and from the Anglican Parishes of the Central Interior faced pressure at home to offer same-sex blessings".
The former Diocese of Cariboo has voted to elect a suffragan bishop as an assistant to the metropolitan of the ecclesiastical province of British Columbia and the Yukon. Archbishop Crawley discusses his plans for the future.
O'Della Grundy, who is in her mid-70s " is a parishioner at St. George's Anglican Church in Kamloops, but she also has an extensive ministry of her own to the city's seniors. And given that 16.2 % of Kamloopsians are over 65 (almost 2 % more than the Canadian average), and that this percentage is projected to increase over the next 15 years, it is a vital area of ministry in which to be involved" (p. 1). In 2014 she performed 44 memorial services. "An added complexity is that many of the seniors with whom she works are not Anglicans. She stressed that 'you have to be aware of everybody, and open to anything happening' to minister effectively to everyone" (p. 1, 8). Grundy went into Education for Ministry (EFM) after attending a retreat at the Sorrento Centre. "She was licensed as a lay minister of word and sacrament in the later 1990s, and became involved in seniors' ministry in 2007" (p. 8).
"I find the actions by the provincial house of bishops for B.C. and Yukon to be disturbing, condescending and verging on the represensible [with regard to the nomination and election of the new Suffragan Bishop, the Rev. Barbara Andrews]". "When APCI [Anglican Parishes of the Central Interior] ceases to exist and is replaced with a diocese, the position of suffragan bishop will also end. The incumbent suffragan bishop could stand for election as the bishop of the new diocese." Letter to the editor.
