"Bishops of the Anglican Church of Canada and the Episcopal Church in the United States (ECUSA) spent four days in February [1993] discussing issues of mutual concern.[in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.]. The theme of the gathering was The Gospel in a Changing Church in a Changing Culture. Topics considered included the environment, sexuality, clergy morale and the role of the episcopacy. Each topic was addressed by two or more bishops in a plenary, followed by discussion in small groups." "Canadian primate Archbishop Michael Peers noted that the two churches share a great deal, but also have inherent differences that can give them different views". "Several Canadian bishops also stressed the important of meeting Suffragan Bishop Barbara Harris of Massachusetts, the first woman bishop in the Anglican Communion". "A meeting of Canadian bishops followed the joint gathering. They received a report on residential schools from John Bird and Shirley Harding, staff members for the residential schools working group."
