The Anglican Church of Canada today launches a series of online databases to facilitate research on Anglican policies, resolutions and books.
The databases, called "ASK -- Anglicans Seeking Knowledge", are part of the General Synod Library's web page and are, as of today, available to the public without charge at: http://www.anglican.ca/search/databases.htm
The online package consists of five major databases and their accessibility through the internet makes ASK a valuable new resource for the entire Anglican Communion and for researchers world-wide.
The databases include a full text database of General Synod policy resolutions dating back to 1924, a full text database of all resolutions of the Lambeth Conferences (1867-1998) and Anglican Consultative Council meetings (1971-2002), a book catalogue database of more than 4,000 titles and an article database containing more than 32,000 articles. Journals indexed include `The Anglican Journal', `Anglican World', `The Church Times', `Episcopal Life', `MinistryMatters' and `The Tablet' and others.
The Content Server/WebPublisher software (also known as INMAGIC) used to create the online databases allows researchers to search and print material from the various databases using the internet.
The project, which has been four years in development, demonstrates a commitment to corporate transparency and offers an example of mutual information partnership and reciprocity, said Karen Evans, General Synod Librarian.
"We see this project as an example of partnership in mission, and information and communication offering to the wider Anglican Communion", said Ms. Evans

Anglican Video, the video production company of the Anglican Church of Canada, will be honoured at the 37th Annual Award Competition of the U.S. International Film and Video Festival.
`Our Church Lives', a 2003 production for the Anglican Appeal which was distributed to parishes across Canada, won a Silver Screen award in the `fund raising' category. The prestigious festival received more than 1,500 submissions from 27 countries. The award will be presented on June 12th at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles.
Lisa Barry, senior producer for Anglican Video, said "We are thrilled to be recognized by the U.S. International Film and Video Festival and hope that the award will garner further attention and support for the Anglican Appeal. We would also like to thank all those who came together and worked hard to make the video a success".
Anglican Video is also anticipating new video releases in the next while. `Baptism: A Lifelong Celebration' is a program about baptism in the Anglican faith, produced for use in Anglican parishes across Canada. "We have had so many requests for this resource," said Ms. Barry, "and we are delighted to be able to respond to this need at the parish level". `Michael Peers: Called to be a Leader' is a biography of the recently retired Primate, which includes interviews with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Governor General Adrienne Clarkson and Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams.
These two videos will be available in June from the Anglican Book Center. (http://www.anglicanbookcentre.com/)

"Audiovisuals, particularly videos, are stimulating tools for learning and it is not surprising that most people phoning for program materials ask for them first. But the Resource Centre also has a range of excellent print materials suitable for various ages which I would encourage you to consider the next time you are planning a program event." The author, the Resource Centre Coordinator, highlights the some of these print resources organized into five main sections: For children; Primate's World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) pamphlets; For youth; For adults; and, For inter-generational groups.
The style of the General Commission's reports in the "Canadian Churchman" and the "United Church Observer" was criticized.

Notice of Motion
It was agreed to hold over until February the following notice of motion, given at the April meeting:
"That we ask the Primate to set apart a day of prayer for Christian Unity and that in connection with that day a poll be conducted in all parishes throughout the Canadian Church to determine the attitudes of our constituency towards organic union with the United Church".
Archdeacon Light reported that the Committee appointed in August by NEC to decide on the format and content of the Journal had agreed not to include Beyond Traplines (The Hendry Report), Theological Education in the '70s, The Manpower Report, The Brief to General Synod of the Commission on Women, The Sociological Analysis of Women Workers in the Church. These are available at the Anglican Book Centre, 600 Jarvis Street, Toronto 285, Ontario. Copies of the Synod Sermon and Theme Addresses may be obtained on request from the General Secretary.

"The January [1995] edition of the 'Anglican Journal' included the debut of 'InterMission', a page produced by General Synod Communications to present and explain the work of General Synod. 'InterMission' which you will find on the inside back cover of the Journal, will feature one article each month which will take an in-depth look at one aspect of the work of General Synod. It will also contain a number of shorter items on on-going stories related to that work. 'InterMission' is published on a page made available free of charge for that purpose by the 'Anglican Journal/ Journal Anglican'. You are invited to comment on the page and its content by contacting: Resources Group, 600 Jarvis Street, Toronto ON M4Y 2J6. Tel. 416-9249199; Fax 416-968-7983; anglican_library@ecunet.org". "I'm glad to see that our bishops are in agreement about focusing the shift and priority of the church away from the same-sex marriage to 'evangelism, discipleship and mission' ('Bishops to focus more on mission', Nov. 2016, p. 1)". "I can't help but strongly feel that we have done a huge disservice to LGBT [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender] Anglicans through this entire, poorly managed situation". "If we are to shift our focus to 'evangelism, discipleship and mission', our church had better start focusing on more resources for clergy to use in order to carry out that aim. I was frustrated to recently discover that many good Anglican Church of Canada resources are no longer being printed and they focus exactly on this new effort for the church. Yet again, we have neglected a facet of the church and are left scrambling to do something that will make it okay".
"Among the resources I am often asked for, are those for baptismal and confirmation preparation. Here is a sample of material we have available. Please consult our complete resource catalogue under Liturgy and Sacraments for a comprehensive list" (p. 2). Description of 10 items: videos, print resource kits, available for loan from the national office Resource Centre. Descriptions divided into sections: Program Resources: Lent and Easter, Stewardship Resources and About child abuse.
