Message U45 - Referred to the following Memorial from the Diocese of Kootenay to the Long Range Planning Committee for their immediate consideration and suitable action:
Re Experimental Diocese
Whereas there is a need in the church for the exploration of all possible means of renewal,
And Whereas The Protestant Episcopal Church, U.S.A., has found great help in this regard from the creation of a Pilot Diocese in which new forms of Church life and ministry have been explored,
And Whereas the Synod of the Diocese of Kootenay has offered that Diocese as an experimental Pilot Diocese and has requested that General Synod designate it as such:
Be It Resolved, that this General Synod do designate the Diocese of Kootenay as an Experimental Diocese in the Canadian Church, and that means of communication be established between the diocese and the appropriate Officers and Committees of General Synod so that
(1) Reports from the Diocese can be studied and suitably distributed for information and guidance of the Church, and
(2) that the Diocese may be encouraged to enter upon experimentation which will benefit the whole Church.
That this General Synod request the General Secretary and the Treasurer to consult with the Long Range Planning Committee and appropriate diocesan officials in order to improve the gathering process and quality of statistical data requested from the diocese to facilitate the evaluation of our ministry by parishes, dioceses and the National Church. CARRIED WITHOUT DEBATE Act 105
