- Be it resolved that this Council of General Synod: 1. Encourage individual Anglicans to advocate for action on the climate emergency by all members of the municipal, provincial, and federal parliaments as a priority. 2. Encourage dioceses and parishes to initiate, support, and participate in the climate justice rallies and other actions as necessary to encourage individual, collective, and governmental action to end the human contribution to climate change. - Council debated possible amendments to the resolution because parts of it were dated. Members inquired whether an environmental policy should come alongside the resolution for advocacy; it was noted that the resolution originated from the youth of General Synod; and it was stressed that climate change is a phenomenon of the world and, therefore, cannot be ended. Lead Animator of Public Witness for Social and Ecological Justice, Dr. Ryan Weston, noted that General Synod 2019 resolution C003 – Climate Change does “urge the Public Witness for Social and Ecological Justice Committee to help organize more sustainable future meetings of the Anglican Church of Canada (such as General Synod and the Council of General Synod), including the possibility of a carbon offset” and that the Creation Matters Working Group is in progress with some of that work.
