That Aboriginal People and Anglicans and others involved in non-violent direct action in defence of unsurrendered Aboriginal ancestral lands and their environment be supported. CARRIED Act 62
1. Recognize in the World Council of Churches' statement on baptism eucharist and ministry a high degree of convergence in expressing the faith of the Church through the ages in these matters.
2. Urge appropriate committees of General Synod and the dioceses of the Anglican Church of Canada to continue to use and study Baptism the Eucharist and Ministry, particularly in discussions with other churches which also recognize the text as an expression of apostolic faith.
3. Encourage the Anglican Church of Canada to use this text for guidance in its worship, educational, ethical and spiritual life and witness.
4. Request the Inter-Church and Inter-Faith Relations Committee to forward any suggestions for the ongoing work of the Faith and Order Commission of the WCC as it seeks to relate the work on Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry to its long range research project "Towards the Common Expression of the Apostolic Faith Today". That the Diocese of Caledonia and the Council of the Haida Nation be supported by calling on the Governments of British Columbia and Canada to initiate a full public enquiry, providing standing and adequate intervenor funding for all affected parties, to review the socio-economic and environmental impacts of the Cinola Gold Project on Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) before the mine goes into production. That this General Synod requests the Primate to commend the Prime Minister and the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development for having set up the Task Force to Review Comprehensive Claims Policy, under the chairmanship of Mr. Murray Coolican.
We urge the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and the Government of Canada to implement immediately the principles of the Coolican Report "Living Treaties: Lasting Agreements" which offer a more productive way to achieve a just and honourable settlement of the long outstanding aboriginal land claims. Receive with appreciation the reports of the Anglican-Orthodox Joint Doctrinal Dialogue (Dublin 1984) and the Anglican Reformed International Commission ("God's Reign and Our Unity") and encourage their widespread study by Anglicans, particularly in conjunction with members of the churches involved in these respective dialogues.
2. Request the Inter-Church and Inter-Faith Relations Committee, reporting through the National Executive Council, to forward responses from the Anglican Church of Canada to these documents to the Anglican Consultative Council and report to the next General Synod. CARRIED IN ALL ORDERS Act 58
That solidarity be expressed with the indigenous people of the Americas in their opposition to the celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the landing of Columbus, which began the destruction of their cultures and peoples, and that this General Synod support all efforts being made for the procuring of their land and civic rights.
