That this National Executive Council call for a complete halt to all development of the James Bay II project until there has been a full independent and open environmental assessment, and the agreement of the aboriginal peoples of that area for this development has been received; and further
that the Anglican and Roman Catholic communities in Canada and the United States be petitioned not to purchase Hydro Quebec bonds until this has been achieved; and further
that this motion be communicated to the governments of Quebec and Canada and the appropriate committees of the Anglican Church of Canada and others as appropriate. CARRIED #71-11-91

HUMAN RIGHTS
That this General Synod, recognizing the importance of human rights in society and in the Church, recommend that all church members be asked to study the Baptismal Covenant (BAS pp. 158-159) and apply it carefully and diligently in all their relationships and dealings with others.
1. With regard to Human Rights Principles (page 22) in the report of the House of Bishops, the word "revise" in the first line of a proposed motion should have read "review". It was noted that when the proposed motion was amended, put and carried, the wording was correct; i.e. "That this NEC review the document.....".
2. The wording "The amended motion" at the top of page 20, should read "The reworded motion".
