"The following pages contain what I sincerely hope is a fair account of the Anglican Congress of 1963. In addition to the sermons and formal addresses, reproduced in as accurate and definitive a form as time and circumstances permit. I have included both the group 'findings' as officially reported to the full Congress and a wide selection of informal speeches and comments made in the plenary sessions or sent in from the groups. I have also attempted a brief preliminary interpretation of the Congress as I saw it and felt its impact. It was the express wish of the Editorial Committee that the record of the Toronto Congress should include these elements of personal reporting and commentary and I have tried to carry out my assignment without worrying unduly about the criticisms that such an impressionistic account must necessarily invite". -- Preface, p. xv.

"These `conversations' are offered to the Anglican Clergy and laity of the Diocese of Huron as a record of my two weeks spent in Rome at the end of November, 1965. I was a `Johnny-come-lately' to the Vatican Council, only arriving during its concluding weeks, and even then on the fringe of its life. I owe much to the Reverend Dr. Eugene Fairweather, of Trinity College, Toronto, and to Bishop G. Emmett Carter, our Roman Catholic Bishop of London, for their hospitality and assistance throughout the fortnight. Without them I should never have been up to bat, much less make it to first base. Another Anglican layman must be mentioned. Frank L. Hallett of London not only supported my trip in many practical ways, but he also provided the machine which made possible my record of these interviews with the Council Observers. .... Read then these pages that follow and note what some of the Christian leaders of the non-Roman Churches think of the Council, of its many acts of aggiornamento (up-dating), of the new life in the Roman Catholic Church, and of the significance of these accomplishments for us who are members of the other Churches". -- Acknowledgements, pp. 1-2.

Quandbeck i.e. Quanbeck -- A World Council of Churches Official Views the Council / Lukas Vischer -- A Religious of a Protestant Community Views the Council / Max Thurian -- An Australian Anglican Views the Council / Frank Cuttriss -- An Orthodox Bishop Views the Council / Emilianos, Metropolitan of Calabria -- An Anglican Layman (an Editor) Views the Council / John W.
