"The book provides a clear and succinct expression of the basics of the Christian theological understanding of the place and role of funerals and particularly the place and import of the bodies and ashes of the deceased. The main point of discussion is how a `funeral' (as opposed to a `Memorial Service') is celebrated if cremation has been chosen instead of a burial of the body".

"Many Christians think of daily prayer as a time for individuals to practice some form of personal devotion, as a personal activity aimed at developing a one-on-one relationship with God. From the beginning of the Church's life, prayer, whether in private or public has been understood to be a communal affair."
In this book, Skudlarek "provides a framework for understanding the function of preaching within the context of liturgy". The reviewer praises the book highly. "It is readable and concise. While the author is a Roman Catholic, his approach is in line with any tradition which follows a liturgical lectionary, and the book is clearly written for an ecumenical audience".
