The Independent Church movement in Africa is one of the most important expressions of Christian faith on the continent. Collectively they are the largest group of Christians in Africa.

The Rt. Rev. Peter Akinola is Bishop of the Diocese of Abuja in Nigeria. Because of his criticism of Nigeria's military rulers he had trouble leaving the country for a trip to Israel and England.
