"`After Terror' offers a sustained reflection by some of the world's most celebrated thinkers on the most pressing question of our time: how can we find ways to defuse the ticking bombs of terrorism and excessive interventions against it ? It offers an antidote to the fatalistic global holy war perspective that afflicts much contemporary thought, focusing instead on the principles, issues, and acts needed to shift course from alienation and conflict to a path of sanity and goodwill among cultures and civilizations. The central aim of the book is to advance contemporary thinking on the causes and implications of 9/11 and thus provide the essential elements of a blueprint for humanity. It features 28 original essays by some of the world's leading public figures, scholars, and religious leaders". -- back cover.

New religious movements and the churches : report and papers of a consultation sponsored by the Lutheran World Federation and the World Council of Churches, Free University, Amsterdam, September 1986
"Edited by Allan R. Brockway and J. Paul Rajashekar".
"The new religious movements 'may be constructive or destructive, can lead to a new freedom or new enslavement, can depersonalize individuals or reveal their fuller human potential, can depend on religious faith or on new rituals equivalent to magic and the occult, can reclaim the drug addict and encourage virtuous lives or exhibit immoral and demonic features'. But if we are to follow the way of Jesus, that of 'barrier-breaking and not barrier-building', these movements must challenge us to dialogue -- a dialogue that does not exclude criticism. These and related issues were discussed at a consultation jointly sponsored by the World Council of Churches and the Lutheran World Federation. The book brings together the papers presented at the consultation and its findings and recommendations". -- back cover.

"'Spirituality in Interfaith Dialogue' was the theme of a consultation which met at the Kansai Seminar House, Kyoto, Japan, from 1 to 5 December 1987. The consultation was jointly sponsored by the World Council of Churches' Sub-units on Renewal and Congregational Life (RCL) and on Dialogue with People of Living Faiths. .... The consultation brought together people belonging to Roman Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant traditions, men and women who had for years lived in dialogue with people of other faiths and, in many instances, shared in depth in the spiritualities of these faiths. Its purpose was to explore what such dialogue with and sharing in the spiritualities of other traditions have meant to them personally and to find out whether what they have learned and gained could contribute to the life of ordinary Christians, both as individuals and congregations". -- Intro., p.
